ISF2021: Zakir Hussain - Alone Together

  • 60 minutes
  • In this special arrangement with San Francisco’s SFJAZZ, Indian Summer presents the online Canadian Premiere of Zakir Hussain's concert ‘Alone Together’ recorded at their beautiful SFJAZZ Center. Here, Zakir Hussain, who usually plays to sold-out venues, occupies an empty concert hall and returns to the most primary and profound musical relationship – himself and the instrument that has been his life.

Hussain performs solo and is joined virtually by special guests collaborating in real-time from different parts of the world – Grateful Dead legend Mickey Hart and bansuri virtuoso Rakesh Chaurasia. The event begins with a special interview with the maestro, exclusive to ISF2021 and virtually hosted at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

Select a general admission ticket for one-time viewing of a single ISF 2021 digital event, or purchase an ISF 2021 Digital or Premium Pass for easy access to all digital events and a multi-sensory summer experience. Refunds are not available for any Indian Summer Arts Society events.

About Indian Summer Festival

Indian Summer Festival (ISF) presents multi-arts experiences that center the exciting work of culturally diverse artists, curated through a South Asian lens. We present acclaimed and emerging international and local artists, connecting Vancouver to itself and the world. Programming across literature, music, visual arts and the performing arts, we connect rich and complex pasts with the emerging future. We strive to be loving and fierce, with an audacious curatorial punch that dismantles walls, plays with ideas and provokes necessary dialogue and debate. In doing this, we believe in the transformative power of the arts, and their ability to offer society’s most renewable resource: hope.

ISF is produced by Indian Summer Arts Society, a provincial non-profit society founded in 2011, and a federally registered charitable organization, based in Vancouver Canada.
