Opening night film: Girl’s Can’t Surf

It’s the 1980s and the world of professional surfing is a circus of fluro colors, peroxide hair and radical male egos. GIRLS CAN’T SURF follows the journey of a band of renegade surfers who took on the male-dominated professional surfing world to achieve equality and change the sport forever. Featuring surfing greats Jodie Cooper, Frieda Zamba, Pauline Menczer, Lisa Andersen, Pam Burridge, Wendy Botha, Layne Beachley and more, GIRLS CAN’T SURF is a wild ride of clashing personalities, sexism, adventure and heartbreak, with each woman fighting against the odds to make their dreams of competing a reality.

About Surfalorus

The 10th annual Surfalorus Film Festival takes place September 22-25, 2021 on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This four-day celebration showcases the year's best surf films, supporting cinematic wonders from award winning veterans to first-time filmmakers. Surfalorus is presented by NC Aquariums and is a partnership between Cucalorus and the Dare County Arts Council. Festival venues include Jennette' Pier, Jack Brown's, and the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island. Surfalorus brings surfers and filmmakers together for four days of sharing and celebrating. Watch some of the year's coolest surf films each night and surf the best waves on the East Coast during the day. Surfalorus also takes place at the same time as the Easterns Surf Championships, so catch a few heats on the South side of Jennette's Pier, surf for a few hours on the Northside of the pier and then head upstairs for a cold beer and some great films.
