THE PHANTOM OF THE OPEN

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPEN tells the heartwarming true story of Maurice Flitcroft (Mark Rylance), a dreamer and unrelenting optimist. This humble crane operator from Barrow-in-Furness managed to gain entry to The British Open Golf Championship qualifying in 1976, despite never playing a round of golf before. He shot the worst round in Open history and drew the ire of the golfing elite, but became a folk hero in the process and, more importantly, showed his family the importance of pursuing your dreams.

About The Independent Picture House

The Independent Picture House is opened June 24th and will be Charlotte, NC only arthouse dedicated to screening independent film. The community cinema is operated by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Charlotte Film Society. The film society has a rich history of screening foreign, independent, and classic films for over 40 years that would not otherwise screen in the Charlotte metro area. Our non-profit also manages the Charlotte Film Festival, Charlotte's premiere annual film festival, which just completed it's 13th edition in October 2021. We can't wait to make IPH the home of the Charlotte Film Festival in fall 2022.
