Back by popular demand! An encore presentation of THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED. Seems like a hundred years flew right by... 1926 was a vibrant year in early cinema, and Lotte Reiniger, a German filmmaker already known for her mastery of silhouettes in collaboration with Max Reinhardt, had finally finished the jaw-dropping THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED, a film that is widely known today as the oldest surviving animated feature film. Reiniger’s stunning, hand-cut puppets and lighting techniques were groundbreaking, along with her precise timing and mastery of early animation. Experience this film with a live score, performed by Dovetail Orchestra on Thursday, May 21 at the Jean Cocteau Cinema.
