    LEFT LANE STRAIGHT

    In-Person Only: March 15

Filmed over 30 years, this love letter to Sephardic culture was inspired by a story that filmmaker Caroline Kaye’s nona (grandmother in Ladino) related about her 1943 exodus from Kavala, Greece, just days before Bulgarian soldiers rounded up its Jews. The real story, it turns out, was not that simple. Digging through family lore, Kaye’s research and scholarly interviews (including with UW professor Devin Naar) yield remarkable discoveries about her family’s transformative journey in turbulent times and shine a light on the e unique and underrepresented Holocaust history of Greek Jews.

Guests: Director/producer Caroline Kaye, producer Deana Morenoff, writer Warren Etheredge and subject UW Prof. Devin Naar

Event: Sephardic coffee chat (echar lashon) + biscochos
