Baekkevold was born and raised in the frigid wilderness of Norway, spending his university years studying film history, modern art, and aesthetic theory. In his early 20s he relocated to the muggy tropics of Singapore, where he got his BA in film directing from Lasalle College of the Arts. Mads subsequently spent close to a decade in the Southeast Asian film industry, living and traveling all across Asia both for work and exploration. A position as a senior creative at Monks set him on the move again, this time to the cobblestone fairytale city of Amsterdam.
