Kick off Sundar Prize Film Festival 2026 with a powerful Opening Night program that moves from intimate longing to collective resistance, featuring acclaimed shorts and an award-winning feature documentary all made in BC by British Columbians. The evening begins with Love Train, a tender, romantic short directed by Tiegan Monaghan, followed by the world premiere of the animated gem Home Is a Feeling by Ryah SM King, a poetic exploration of identity and belonging. Next is One Day This Kid, directed by Alexander Farah and inspired by the iconic text by David Wojnarowicz. The film screened at TIFF, won Best Narrative Short at SXSW, and has generated significant international buzz for its haunting exploration of silence and masculinity. The night culminates with the feature documentary Saints and Warriors, directed by Patrick Shannon, an electrifying portrait of the Skidegate Saints basketball team as they defend their All Native Basketball Championship title while simultaneously resisting colonial systems imposed through the Indian Act. The film is a Hot Docs Top 5 Audience Favourite, winner of multiple Leo Awards, and recipient of major jury prizes across Canada. Opening remarks will take place prior to the screening, followed by a post-screening Q&A with the filmmakers. Hot snacks will be served.
