This shorts program explores the wonderfully empowering, yet at times conflicting process of becoming our own (queer) self. Latin America is a tricky territory for LGBTQ2+ folks and revealing your true colours can be a revolutionary act. In the spirit of pride, these films celebrate the everyday heroes who find the courage to live freely, love and laugh. Featuring TARRO/KICK THE CAN (Dir. Andrés Losada); ELENA (Dir. Ayerim Villanueva); THE BALLERINA/DIAMANTE, O BAILARINA (Dir. Pedro Jorge); PHOTOMATON (Dir. Roberto Fiesco); DISASTER FILM/FILME-CATASTROFE (Dir. Gustavo Vinagre); PLATYPUS (Dir. Reynier Cepero).
The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival is a registered charitable organization with the mission to provide a forum for the promotion and exhibition of Latin American cinema in Vancouver. This 11-day annual festival encourages dialogue among cultures, and explores and celebrates the art of contemporary Latin American and Latin-Canadian filmmaking.
