IF PIGEONS TURNED TO GOLD

This winner of the Berlinale Best Documentary Award is a raw and vibrantly original debut feature, in which director Pepa Lubojacki investigates their own family history to understand why their beloved older brother and cousins live unhoused and struggle with substance abuse. Formally inventive and surprisingly playful, Lubojacki’s diaristic footage enters into dialogue with stylized memories, animated childhood photographs, and interstitial graphics to shape a collective voice that negotiates with the past to understand the present. IF PIGEONS TURNED TO GOLD cuts to the deeply personal core of addiction and intergenerational trauma, asking what respect truly demands: to save, or to let go.
